This 14-day accommodated overland tour takes you through the province of Mpumalanga to Swaziland. You visit Mozambique with its seafood, beautiful coastal sceneries, white sandy beaches and some of the world’s most amazing diving and snorkelling spots. You visit the capital city of Maputo as well as Vilanculos and Inhambane. This tour wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the world-famous Kruger National Park in South Africa, where you will hopefully spot Africa’s ‘Big Five’. Leaving the park, you will travel along the picturesque Panorama Route and then continue to Johannesburg where the tour ends.

Day 1 Mpumalanga, South Africa - Hlane Royal National Park, Swaziland

Distance approx. 450 km; driving time approx. 8-10h

After an early departure from Johannesburg you travel through the province of Mpumalanga en route to Swaziland. After crossing the border you enter the Hlane Royal National Park, a huge nature reserve that is home to lion, elephant and white rhino. Explore this area for two days by going hiking or mountain biking or joining a rhino walk. All optional activities and not included in the rate.

Day 2 Hlane Royal National Park, Swaziland

More than 30 000 ha in size, the Hlane Royal National Park is Swaziland’s largest protected area. Originally it was the private hunting area of the Swazi royal family but it is now managed by Big Game Parks. As the lions are in a fenced enclosure, it is possible to go hiking in the park. The park is divided by a main road and has abundant and diverse bird species. After a day of exploring you can enjoy traditional Swazi dancing after dinner.

Day 3 Hlane Royal National Park, Swaziland - Praia do Tofo, Mozambique

Distance approx. 550 km; driving time approx. 10-11h

Today you cross to Mozambique and then travel in north towards Praia do Tofo where you will camp for the next two nights. You will be captivated by the beautiful coastal scenery. There’s plenty to do in Tofo: relax on the beach and swim. Go diving with whale sharks, canoeing or horse riding (all optional activities, not included in the rate).

Day 4 Praia do Tofo, Mozambique

In season, Tofo is one of the world’s best sites to see the world’s largest fish, the whale shark. This entire day is at leisure and you can go snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, surfing, join an ocean or kayak safari or just relax on the beautiful white sandy beach and sample local liquid refreshments.

Day 5 Praia do Tofo, Mozambique - Vilanculos, Mozambique

Distance approx. 350 km; driving time approx. 7h

The Bazaruto Archipelago is Mozambique’s premier destination. It is a protected marine reserve and the sea-life around this cluster of islands is spectacular and snorkelling onone of the reefs is one of the best ways to enjoy it. On the way to Vilanculos you will stop at a local craft market to do some souvenir shopping.

Day 6-7 Bazaruto Archipelago National Park excursion

The Bazaruto excursion is done on the dhow, the traditional sailing vessel of the African east coast. You sail to the islands where you can snorkel, swim and relax on the beach for two days. Accommodation will be in a small B&B. On the rare occasion that the weather may be unfavorable the transfer by dhow will be done with a more conventional boat.

Day 8-9 Vilanculos, Mozambique - Inhambane, Mozambique

Distance on day 8 approx. 350 km; driving time approx. 6h

Today you travel through coconut plantations to the old Portuguese settlement of Inhambane. This relaxed coastal region has incredible beaches and clear warm water. Activities here include fishing to horse riding over scuba diving, quad biking and snorkelling. These activities are not included in the rate.

Day 10 Inhambane, Mozambique - Maputo, Mozambique

Distance approx. 500 km; driving time approx. 6-7h

Today you travel south towards Mozambique’s capital, Maputo. Mozambique gained independence from the Portugal in 1975 but is still undergoing renovations after the civil war. Taste fresh seafood and explore the markets.

Day 11-12 Maputo, Mozambique - Kruger National Park, South Africa

Distance on day 11 approx. 200 km; driving time approx. 4-5h (excl. game drives)

Passing through Maputo you return to South Africa and continue to the South Africa’s biggest game reserve, Kruger National Park. Here you might be lucky to see Africa’s ‘Big Five’. The Kruger National Park is the most famous nature conservation area in the world and two nights are spent in this magnificent area. Early morning game walks and night drives (accompanied by a ranger) are offered as optional excursions.

Day 13 Kruger National Park, South Africa - Timbavati, South Africa

Distance approx. 150 km; driving time approx. 2h

Today’s journey takes you to the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, where animals are being re-habilitated before being released back into the wild. You might meet some baby leopards or lion cubs. Tonight you will be entertained with traditional singing and dancing and a typical South African meal.

Day 14 Timbavati, South Africa - Johannesburg, South Africa

Distance approx. 600 km; driving time approx. 8-10h

Travelling along the Panorama Route you stop at the natural phenomena of the Blyde River Canyon and Bourke's Luck Potholes. Thereafter you continue to reach Johannesburg in the afternoon. Johannesburg has many excellent restaurants and the group often spends this evening together. Dinner at own expense.

  • How big is the group and where are my fellow travellers from?

    - Group sizes vary however there is a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 18 travellers per group.
    - Some departure dates are set aside for small group departures with a maximum of 12 travellers per group (see “Departure and Rates”).
    - Travellers are from all over the world and from all walks of life.

  • Is there an age limit on tour?

    - Generally the age limit is 16 to 65 years. But please feel free to contact us if you are a youngster travelling with your parents or if you are over the age of 65 years and we will gladly contact the local tour operator to see if we can’t work out something for you.

  • Where does the group overnight while on tour?

    - 13 nights are spent in twin rooms / permanent tents / chalets at nice camps / guesthouses / lodges.

  • What vehicle is used on tour?

    - We make use of safari trucks that have been reconstructed in order to cope with the demanding African conditions. Big windows guarantee first-class game and nature viewing and a spacious interior with comfortable seats offer a high travel comfort. The back part of the vehicle is used for luggage, food and other equipment.

  • What meals are included and what food can be expected on tour?

    - Meals are included as indicated in the itinerary.
    - Breakfast usually consists of cereals, toast and jam. Light lunches like salads and sandwiches are prepared en-route while for dinner the guide prepares stews, BBQs, vegetables and different pasta or rice dishes.

  • How much extra money do I have to take along?

    - We recommend that you take along some extra cash for drinks, snacks and souvenirs. 10-15 USD per day is usually sufficient (depending on your spending habits). In addition you should allow some extra money for the optional activities you might want to participate in.

  • Do I need visa for this tour?

    - Citizens of all nationalities need to contact the respective embassies of their travel destination to check the visa regulations.
    - In general European citizens do not require a visa for South Africa and Swaziland. For Mozambique visa is usually required.
    - It is the sole responsibility of every traveller to be in possession of the required documents and visa that allows them to enter their holiday destination.

  • Do I need vaccinations for this tour?

    - As the Kruger Park and Mozambique are situated within a malaria area, we would recommend some precautions. Please speak to your doctor or travel clinic about the different prophylaxis and their effects and side effects.
    - Although none of the countries visited on tour require proof of immunization against Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio and Hepatitis A & B, we nevertheless recommend those vaccinations.
